Children's Services

Ywca_inner-banners-children

As a member of YWCA Canada, we are the largest provider of literacy, life skills, employment and counselling programs in the country and the second largest provider of childcare services. The YWCA Hamilton’s licensed child care programs provide a friendly, inclusive environment for all children fifteen months to twelve years old. The child care programs utilizes How Does Learning Happen: Ontario Pedagogy for the Early Years to create captivating environments which support interactions that generate rich conversations between staff, children and their families about the children’s development, interests and needs.

At the YWCA Hamilton, our team of dedicated and experienced educators understand the value of facilitating children’s growth and development; that’s why they work so hard to provide a play based curriculum which is executed through creative learning experiences and a variety of developmentally appropriate activities while the children are playing and having fun.

The YWCA child care programs implements a play based curriculum model. Our educators actively listen, observe and document the children`s learning and experiences. Our child care team engages in reflective practice, by themselves and within their teams to best understand the both the children and the program needs.

The YWCA Hamilton Child Care Team recognizes that building supportive partnerships with families is a key element to providing high quality child care. It is through this guiding principle that our team of early educators engage families in discussions to build a supportive partnership to benefit both the child and their families.

The YWCA Hamilton offers a variety of programs for children fifteen months to twelve years old.

Licensed Full Day Child Care

The YWCA Hamilton Child Care Team strongly believe learning through play and exploration exemplifies meaningful learning during the early years of a child’s life. When play is child-initiated, children are intrinsically motivated, therefore, they are more involved with their learning and development. Our educators continuously support these play experiences to foster the children`s love of learning and discovery.

The YWCA Hamilton offers unique experience to our programs. These include:

Here We Come Kindergarten: This program builds a foundation for learning that prepares all of our preschool children to enter kindergarten.

WEE Read: This program was created because of the YWCA Hamilton’s investment in early literacy. This early literacy program aims to empower parents, and engage children in literacy-rich activities.

*Swimming Lessons: Weekly swimming lessons are included in the child care program at no extra costs to parents.

The YWCA Hamilton works in partnership with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport to provide funded After School Programs. These programs deliver quality afterschool programs designed to promote physical activity, healthy eating and health and wellness in identified priority neighbourhoods.

The KidsZone and KidsZone – Girls Edition focuses on getting the children physically active through participation in structured activities like dodgeball, hip hop dancing or soccer, or simply through unstructured play like tag and grounders. The children learn fun and creative ways to be physically active.

The healthy eating components of the KidsZone and KidsZone – Girls Edition emphasizes the importance of healthy nutrition. The children learn about good nutrition, good eating habits and cooking healthy foods, with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables.

Both the The KidsZone and KidsZone – Girls Edition makes the child’s overall health and wellness an integral part of the program.
