POSITION TITLE: Child Care Greeter

CLASSIFICATION: Volunteer

LOCATION: 75 MacNab St. S, Hamilton, Ontario                         

REPORTS TO: Volunteer Coordinator

SUPERVISOR:  Supervisor, Children’s Program

VERSION DATE: September 2025        

SCHEDULE: Daily 8:00am – 10:00am

A. PURPOSE STATEMENT:

We offer Ministry of Education-licensed child care for infants (birth to 18 months), toddlers (18-30 months) and preschoolers (30 months up to school entry) from 7a.m. to 6p.m. Monday to Friday at the following locations:

B. QUALIFICATIONS

·       Must be 18 years of age or older

·       Able to commit to a recurring volunteer shift

·       Desire to be a long-term volunteer

·       Committed to advocating for and empowering women, girls and gender diverse individuals

·       Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning

·       Willing to accept supervision and take direction

·       Must maintain confidentiality and privacy 

·       Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal communication skills

·       Able to excel in a high interaction environment  

·       Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector / Criminal Records Check or willingness to obtain at own cost

·       Must provide a TB test, proof of Tetanus (within 10 years) and proof of MMR immunizations

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Greeting families who are dropping off their children for daycare outside our MacNab location by the main doors

·       Giving families a warm welcome / smiling face as they arrive with their children

·       Putting out Tri fold Childcare board at the beginning of each shift and returning it to childcare services at the end of each shift

·       Directing any inquiries or concerns to Childcare staff

·       Adhere to all policies as outlined in the YWCA Volunteer Training

·       Connect with the coordination team with any concerns prior to the completion of your volunteer shift 

·       Works safely and reports all workplace hazards 

·       Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values 

·       Perform other duties as required


NECESSARY TRAINING / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:            

·       YWCA Volunteer Training

·       Position Specific Orientation

C.    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift and bend.
  • Must be able to stand outdoors for up to 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold.
