Welcome to the MakerSpace, where innovation meets community!
Whether you’re a seasoned tech enthusiast or just starting on your journey, our MakerSpace team is here to support you every step of the way. We offer cutting edge tools, workshops and expert support for your projects and learning goals.
The MakerSpace is located at 52 Ottawa Street North in Hamilton Ontario and can be booked by groups and individuals through our online booking system. We invite community organizations, corporations and any other large groups to reach out to the MakerSpace coordinator
MakerSpace Equipment
The MakerSpace is equipped with a Creality Ender-3 V3 KE, great for a variety of 3D printing tasks and suitable for all knowledge levels interested in additive manufacturing.
This FDM (fused deposition modeling) printer has a build volume of 220 x 220 x 240 mm and is equipped for PLA printing only. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about additive manufacturing processes, preparing 3D files for print using slicing software, and operating printer machines. 3D printing offers endless opportunities for creation, including:
- Rapid prototyping
- Small business
- Functional parts & repairs
- Costume & prop design
- Accessibility tools
Desktop Computers
The MakerSpace is equipped with MacOS and Windows desktops, pre-loaded with software to help users create, learn, and explore. Installed programs include:
- Adobe Creative Suite, e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator (MacOS)
- Microsoft Office, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint (Windows)
- Blender
- Python
- And more!
Laptops
Laptops are available for loan when using certain MakerSpace devices, including 3D printers, CNC machines, and the Cricut Machine. Each laptop comes preloaded with the necessary software to operate these machines.
Tablets
Tablets are available for booking. These are great for group work or as a portable device while using one of our worktables. Note: Tablets must remain inside the MakerSpace.
Raspberry Pi
The MakerSpace features Raspberry Pi 400 desktop Linux machines. Each setup includes a Raspberry Pi 400, keyboard, mouse, and monitor. These mini-computers are excellent for learning about computer systems, coding in Scratch and Python, or getting familiar with Linux-based operating systems.
Our space is equipped with the Carbide Nomad3!
This fully enclosed, desktop CNC machine, has an unlimited amount of uses. Though ideal for prototyping, technology and manufacturing; it is also perfect for much more like engraving or carving. The Nomad3 also comes equipped to machine a variety of different materials. Including, wood, synthetic wood, aluminum, acrylic, copper, brass, HDPE, linoleum, and wax.
Our HP DesignJet T650 wide format printer can print any inkjet project up to 36” wide! Extremely easy to use. Perfect for large scale prints like sewing pattern templates or photography prints.
Cricut Machine
The MakerSpace includes a Cricut Explore 3. This machine is capable of cutting intricate patterns into paper, adhesive vinyl, heat-transfer vinyl, leather, and more!
We have also equipped this with a 3D printed adapter to make most pens and markers compatible for pen-plotting art or writing. A small selection of permanent adhesive vinyl and paper are available – visitors are welcome to bring their own materials and use at their own discretion. The Explore 3 is compatible with Cricut Smart materials, but standard Cricut mats are included at this station to accept other types of material.

The MakerSpace stands as a testament to the power of community support, made possible through generous donations from Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario who recognize the importance of fostering a space where creativity can flourish. It’s a haven where dreams are brought to life, ideas take shape, and innovation thrives. We eagerly encourage community members to explore their inventive spirit. Here, curiosity knows no bounds, and imagination is given free rein.
Corporate Engagement Opportunities
The YWCA MakerSpace provides a supportive and inclusive space for learning, exploration, and imagination.
We offer several team building workshops and work with local community partners to invite connection and build creative engagement. The MakerSpace provides support for branding and promotional materials, skill-building, and material exploration.
