YWCA Hamilton The Sustainable, Resilient Communities Initiative

A Sustainable, Resilient Hamilton — Together

The Sustainable, Resilient Communities Initiative (SRCI) is supported by the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Development Goals Program and led by YWCA Hamilton in collaboration with Refuge: Hamilton Centre for Newcomer HealthHamilton Chamber of CommerceSolidarity Place Worker Education CentreEnvironment Hamilton, and Sisters in Sync. The SRCI drives public education and community awareness for civic engagement and action around municipal priorities, process and planning. Local government decisions impact our daily lives and residents can take an active role to advance progress in their communities.

Rooted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SRCI initiative builds local resilience by using the SDGs as a global framework to help residents make connections between these goals, local issues, and municipal priorities.  This project will support individuals and communities in mobilizing collective action for a more equitable and sustainable Hamilton.

City Building from the Ground Up

How can Hamilton advance the SDGs and localize them?

This initiative not only raises awareness of equity budgeting and how impact our lives – it also connects local action to global goals.

Cities are uniquely positioned to drive progress on the SDGs because of their direct connection to everyday life.
