The Oakwood Project

The Future Oakwood Place: Coming Spring 2027

The Oakwood Project is 90 life changing supportive housing units for women, gender-diverse people and their children. It is a safe landing place to rebuild a fulfilling life after fleeing violence.  

The project will build upon YWCA Hamilton’s success with the Putman Family YWCA on Ottawa Street and the Transitional Living Program on MacNab Street.


Living at Oakwood Place

    30 private 2-and 3-bedroom units for women-led families

     10 ‘pods,’ each consisting of 6 private bedrooms and bathrooms with shared kitchens and living rooms

     Dedicated supports for pregnant people and those newly parenting

     24-Hour onsite staff support

   Secure private outdoor space and accessible amenities for residents

Project Timeline

Demolition has begun and will finish within 12 weeks.


Phase 1: Demolition & Remediation

Demolition will begin at the end of May and not exceed 12 weeks. Every step has been taken to ensure a safety with minimal disruption from noise and sidewalk obstruction.

May 2025-August 2025


Final Phase: Occupancy

Anticipated Dec. 2027

Yes. Supportive and transitional housing are different than a shelter. Women and families will live at Oakwood for months or years and receive support to achieve their own independence and fulfillment.
